Teach me to PRAY!

Matthew 18:1-6, says, "At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? He called a little child and had him stand among them. And He said: I tell you the truth, unless YOU CHANGE and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea." I believe that the most powerful words ever spoken are the words of God, and the words of children. My oldest daughter Kailey, is now wanting to lead the prayer when we set at the table as a family to eat. Her prayer goes something like this, "Jesus, Teach me to Pray, and help the food to pray." I am not really sure where teaching the food to pray came in, but any how our food is learning to pray. I know that sounds funny in at least the food part, but the reality is how simple yet powerful that truly is. I think that once we become adults we know it all, we know how to pray, we know how to direct others, we know what to do and what not to do! At least we think we do! I don't think we know as much as we think we do. I wonder what would happen if we came before the living God with such a humble heart as my daughter to say, Jesus teach me to Pray. I don't have it all down, I don't know what I am doing, I don't and I can't without you Jesus. You see, I believe and I am convinced that the child like heart is truly what Jesus is looking for, not our all knowing let me show you attitude. My prayer today is Jesus simply teach me to pray, teach me to lean not in my own understanding, but in all my ways to acknowledge you and you will direct my path. My prayer today is Jesus please teach ME, not the other guy, but me. HELP ME TODAY JESUS! What is the simple cry of your heart sound like?

Awesome post, Chris. It reminds me of something our new pastor's wife was talking about yesterday...when her 95 year old grandma died, they found written in her journal, "Lord, teach me how to pray." At 95 years old the lady was STILL asking for help in knowing exactly how to pray...what a lesson for all of us!
